My name is Laura-Liisa Srubišek (I know, it's a long name, and let's not even talk about the surname, which takes ages to pronounce correctly). You can simply call me Laura or Srubi, like my friends do 🙂 I'm from a small country called Estonia, and I'm currently traveling and working in Australia.

I'm glad you've found your way to this world where we live and breathe makeup and hairstyles! Because that's precisely what I do, I LIVE and BREATHE it! And I've been doing it for a straight 10 years now. Why? Well, I'll show you:

These Emotions, this Energy flow, these People I get to meet and have amazing conversations with, the cool Places I get to see while working, and of course, the Creativity - all of this is what makes my eyes twinkle and keeps me up at night with excitement about what the next day will bring.

I know it might sound cheesy, but how can you even call it work when it makes you feel this way? I just live and breathe it all (though I might just be a workaholic too 🙃). But how can you not when you love what you do so much?

So if you already made it this far, I'll try to give a 'brief' introduction about who I am (but I struggle with short sentences, so let's see):

  • I've always been creative, loving art, drawing, and various crafts. I even made and sold jewelry in 7th grade.
  • My makeup journey began at the age of 15 when I took my first makeup course.
  • Throughout high school (9th-12th grade), I was already doing makeup and hairstyles for private clients and also some creative projects. For example I teamed up with my friend Mirjam Kalmann to create looks for her fashion show collections for high schoolers.
  • I went on to study Mathematical Statistics at the University of Tartu. (Wait... what?! Yeah, that was the reaction of every client and person who knew about my love for makeup.) I've always loved math and logic, but to make a long story short, I realized I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and after a few months, I returned to Tallinn.
  • You see how my sentences are getting longer and longer? I told you... 😆 But let's continue...
  • I attended an SFX makeup course, which I still consider one of the most exciting periods of my life because I radiated pure excitement and soaked up knowledge like a sponge.
  • I then pursued a degree in Business with a focus on marketing at Tallinn University of Technology. All the while, I actively pursued my makeup work as much as possible (obviously a lot since I extended my studies by one semester because of that 😅). I proudly graduated in February 2022.

To date, I have worked with approximately 50% private clients, including various events like weddings and photoshoots, and the other 50% with business clients in fields such as fashion and editorial shoots, music videos, commercials, events, business portraits, films, and series.

So, you might be wondering, what's my niche? Well, this year, after hitting the 10-year mark in the makeup field and facing that age-old question while all of social media screams, 'Find/show/market your NICHE!!!,' I had a bit of a mid-work-life crisis.

But you know what? In Estonia, we basically have two types of makeup artists: "Jumestaja" and "Grimeerija." It's a bit hard to translate, but basically, the first one mainly does beauty makeup (and sometimes simpler hairstyles) for private clients, while the other one, well... does everything (from pretty to ugly to creative and more). The word "grimeerija" refers to creating a character, which might be you, but with that makeup artist magic dust, ready for an event. Or creating a completely different character out of a person. So... I'm the latter - a grimeerija.

And you know what? The makeup artists I've had the pleasure of working with in this field in Estonia are a bunch of badasses. Our industry demands a wide range of skills from us (because we live in such a small country), and we consistently deliver! I believe that's a niche of its own kind. Having a diverse portfolio doesn't necessarily mean you're not focused; in fact, it can make you a stronger artist in various aspects. So, my niche is... being DIVERSE!

But all that said, I can narrow down my style in event makeup for my lovely clients who want to get glammed by me. I absolutely adore achieving a flawless complexion, so even with bold and creative eye or lip makeup, you'll still get the most beautiful version of your skin, making you look like yourself but in the 'looking like a million bucks' version. And you won't get that baked-caked stuff from me, sorry!
